About William Strong

A member of the National Association of Social Workers, therapist William Strong currently runs a private mental health practice in Denver, Colorado. With an extensive background in family care, he has worked in a variety of social contexts: developing the initial stages of the IDEAL program for the Tennyson Center for Children, as a Staff Therapist at The Children’s Hospital, and as Child and Family Investigator in the legal system. William Strong sees his work as a response to the modern dilemma of increasingly fragmented families, which produces isolated children who then grow into adults without the skills or experience to start their own healthy families.

William Strong offers his services as a therapist both to assist individuals in achieving better mental health and to improve society as a whole, starting with his local community in Denver.

If individuals can understand why they take certain actions, the thinking behind their behavior, only then are they able to change their actions through a change in their thinking patterns. This is the theory behind cognitive behavioral therapy, the style of treatment that Strong has found most useful in his years as a therapist. He has used the techniques associated with cognitive behavioral therapy to assist both children and adults, and has also found that it works well in conjunction with other rehabilitation methods, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).

Cognitive behavioral therapy often produces results faster than other forms of therapy, and unlike some therapists, William Strong does not engage in open-ended therapy. He keeps his sessions results-focused, and his goal is to give his clients the confidence and tools they need to handle the problems life brings them on their own. According to Strong, long-term dependence on therapy is a result of ineffective treatment, and as a therapist his goal is to empower his clients.

From 2007 to 2008, Denver’s KOSI 101 radio station asked William Strong to be a guest on the show KOSI After Dark. Strong fielded calls from listeners, using his solution-focused approach to respond to their problems. He has also done volunteer work for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, Inc. AMEND, United Way Worldwide, and Family Tree Inc. William Strong lives in Denver, Colorado, and enjoys white water rafting in his free time.
